چکیده

We solve the question of the existence of a Poisson-Pinsker factor for conservative ergodic infinite measure preserving action of a countable amenable group by proving the following dichotomy: either it has totally positive Poisson entropy (and is of zero type), or it possesses a Poisson-Pinsker factor. If G is abelian and the entropy positive, the spectrum is absolutely continuous (Lebesgue countable if G = Z) on the whole L-space in the first case and in the orthocomplement of the L-space of the Poisson-Pinsker factor in the second.

Entropy of infinite systems and transformations

The Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy is a far reaching dynamical generalization of Shannon entropy of information systems. This entropy works perfectly for probability measure preserving (p.m.p.) transformations. However, it is not useful when there is no finite invariant measure. There are certain successful extensions of the notion of entropy to infinite measure spaces, or transformations with ...

Entropy Theory without Past

This paper treats the Pinsker algebra of a dynamical system in a way which avoids the use of an ordering on the acting group. This enables us to prove some of the classical results about entropy and the Pinsker algebra in the general setup of measure preserving dynamical systems, where the acting group is a discrete countable amenable group. We prove a basic disjointness theorem which asserts t...

Turbulence, Representations, and Trace-preserving Actions

We establish criteria for turbulence in certain spaces of C∗-algebra representations and apply this to the problem of nonclassifiability by countable structures for group actions on a standard atomless probability space (X,μ) and on the hyperfinite II1 factor R. We also prove that the conjugacy action on the space of free actions of a countably infinite amenable group on R is turbulent, and tha...

Measure Concentration and the Weak Pinsker Property

Let pX,μq be a standard probability space. An automorphism T of this space has the weak Pinsker property if for every ε ą 0 it is isomorphic to a direct product of a Bernoulli shift and an automorphism of entropy less than ε. This property was introduced by Thouvenot, who conjectured that it holds for all measure-preserving systems. This paper proves Thouvenot’s conjecture. The proof applies wi...

Ja n 20 08 POISSON SUSPENSIONS AND INFINITE ERGODIC THEORY

We investigate ergodic theory of Poisson suspensions. In the process, we establish close connections between finite and infinite measure preserving ergodic theory. Poisson suspensions thus provide a new approach to infinite measure preserving ergodic theory. Fields investigated here are mixing properties, spectral theory, joinings. We also compare Poisson suspensions to the apparently similar l...
